More from Talent QueenieBrowne!

A little while ago I wrote a post about Louise Browne aka QueenieBrowne - a designer based in Glasgow who was working hard to create her new label. I have been seeing some amazing new designs or hers popping up from time to time on Facebook, and the latest news is that QueenieBrowne is now on Etsy. I would like to share a few more images of hers, some of which are now available as prints or cards in her Etsy store.

Louise is loading products into her new Etsy store at the moment, and also has a QueenieBrowne website in the pipeline. Be sure to make a visit to her Etsy store soon because you will find more than just printed material; there are some very sweet brooches and some animal character lavender bags. Who knows what other treats she has in store for us next. Whatever they are, I know they'll be good!

Aarrekid Autumn Winter 12 - A Surface Pattern Dream!

I've been a fan of Finnish label Aarrekid for some time based on what I had seen online. I've written a couple of posts featuring the Aarrekid label, and yesterday I received a thank-you package with two pieces from the new Aarrekid Autumn-Winter 12 collection. I can say without an ounce of exaggeration that - now I have seen the real thing - I am smitten! I absolutely love this label. The garments exceeded my already high expectations.

The t-shirt and scarf I received are well made, and the organic cotton has a smooth, soft feel. The design itself, by artist Miia Kajaani  Piia Keto is so beautifully intricate; every inch is visually enticing. There is a wonderful balance of light and dark, and the coloured elements pop with great effect. The design has a large repeat and is packed with quirky characters and cute scenes. Elegantly drawn flora fill the gaps or frame the scenes beautifully. Wow, love it!
Here is a closer look at the design:

My daughter is going to be one stylish little lady in her Aarrekid gear. Why not spoil your favourite little person with something from this unique label. You'll find this Autumn-Winter 12 loveliness at the Aarrekid website very soon. Trust me, you'll love it!

A huge thanks to Sanna from Aarrekid for this generous gift, and for allowing Kitty as a Picture Illustration and Surface Design Blog permission to publish these images.

Minti Summer 12 - Streetwear for Kids

Australian and New Zealand brand Minti continues to do well with its clever graphics and street style. The ethos of the company is to consider "would we wear that if we were small?" It's a refreshing approach to design for kids that has seen the company thrive since its inception in 2003.
The Spring Summer 12 collection features penty of cool graphics, and I have picked a few to show here:

Boogie Down at the Solar Festival with Hedof!

Hedof is a one-man studio run by Rick Berkelmans in Breda, Netherlands. Bold and striking in style, Rick's work is well suited to these large-scale projects (below) for the recent Solar Festival. The first project shown here is a window design and a promotional flyer for Red Bull Music Academy Radio:

Sneaky Sam App for iPhone and iPad - Binny Talib and Josh Stewart

Sneaky Sam Application for iPhone and iPad

It's been all tears lately for my toddler, Cleo, who has been sick again and again with winter ills. What a wonderful pick-me-up today to see her so delighted with Sneaky Sam, an application for the iPhone and iPad. Sneaky Sam was written and created by Josh Stewart, illustrated by award winning illustrator Binny Talib, and narrated by well known Australian actor Felix Williamson (Me & My Monsters, Happy Feet.) Children can read Sneaky Sam by themselves, or have it narrated to them. It tells the story of a little boy called Sam who is just a little bit sneaky but wholly lovable. The story is sweet, the artwork has plenty of appeal, and the app includes three games for further entertainment. Cleo, at three and a half years, is the perfect age to enjoy Sneaky Sam, but it is also ideal for older children who are learning to read. As well as the storybook, Cleo became fascinated with the 'Stickers' where she could choose from a large selection of pre-drawn items and place them where she wanted to create a unique picture of her own. It is compelling even for an adult!
Here are some of the gorgeous characters from Sneaky Sam

Binny's limited palette works to great effect, and keeps the visuals clean and uncomplicated. I love having apps like this for those critical moments when I need my daughter to quieten down or be distracted momentarily. What a lifesaver they can be! Sneaky Sam by Binny Talib and Josh Stewart is fun and at the same time educational; it definitely gets the thumbs up from me and Cleo!

Visit the Sneaky Sam website to find out more, or purhase at the App Store. Find out more about Australian illustrator Binny Talib at her website. Read a previous post about Binny Talib here.

A huge thanks to Binny Talib for introducing me and Cleo to this fabulous App!

Prints Inspired by The Ballets Russes: Modern Love AW12

I am fascinated by these intricate prints in the Modern Love Autumn Winter 2012 collection. It is amazing to see the artwork (by talented designer Sarah Arnett) laid flat, and then how it appears on the garment. This season Modern Love is inspired by the provocative aesthetic of The Balletts Russes; Modern Love's interpretation of this bohemian time is elegant excess, opulence, and unrivaled fantasy.
