Printed Fashion: Karen Walker - Sea Monsters

Etched on my mind today is the 2012/13 Resort Collection by New Zealand designer Karen Walker. Of the Resort 13 collections I have viewed this is one of my favourites and for me the most wearable. Perhaps this is because I too am a New Zealander and it has a quality that I recognise and love, or perhaps it is pure coincidence. Resort Runaway features a lot of spots and stripes, and the Resort Mainline features just one main print, so I have compiled images of garments from all of Karen's Walker's collections that come under the heading Sea Monsters. Inspired by Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Sea Monsters brings together sea militariana mixed with the decorative flourish of the Victorian age and a dash of Brian Jones-esque 60s mod. A fascinating combination!

You can view some of the reference material for the Sea Monsters theme at the Karen Walker website; it is fascinating and certainly offers some insight. Resort will be in the shops in October, and my guess is that the other collections pictured here will be available in August.

A huge thanks to Jiali Yang at Karen Walker International for allowing Kitty as a Picture Illustration and Surface Design Blog permission to publish these images.
