Illustration: The Flower by Ximena Escobar

It is so refreshing to see someone using good old-fashioned coloured pencils, and to use them as beautifully as Ximena Escobar does. These flowers are part of a project Ximena is working on at the moment about a woman and her relationship with nature. Ximena says they will be part of a collection of narrative wallpapers.

Ximena Escobar has been illustrating since the age of four. Born and raised in Colombia she graduated with honours from a BA in graphic design. She then moved to London to get an MA in Textiles Futures at Central Saint Martins College. Since then she has been working as a fulltime freelance designer and illustrator.

I am looking forward to seeing how this project evolves, so I hope to bring you more from The Flower by Ximena Escobar later. Ximena's website is currently being updated, so if you would like to see more of her work you can visit her Flickr Photostream.

A huge thanks to Ximena Escobar for allowing Kitty as a Picture Illustration and Surface Design Blog permission to publish these images.
